Character: Soubi Agatsuma
Canon: Loveless
Version: Manga
Canon Point: Pre-canon
Age: 13
Gender: Male

History:
Soubi's parents died when he was very young, and he was taken in by a man called Ritsu. Ritsu recognised Soubi as a rare type of person known as a Blank and began training him to be a Fighter – someone who will use words to battle and affect the world around them. Ritsu was very harsh with Soubi, demanding nothing less than perfection. He was also an abusive guardian, complaining when Soubi acted like a child, and snapping at him when he cried. When he took Soubi to his parent's grave, he made comments about Soubi staying there with his mother, and actively worked to make Soubi scared and frightened. He also preyed upon Soubi's fear of the dark, trying to 'tough' him out of it.

Among other things in the name of training, Ritsu whipped him methodically to increase his pain tolerance. Ritsu also raped/seduced him, taking his ears (a physical manifestation of virginity), because he reminded Ritsu of Soubi's mother – whom he was obsessed with. Ritsu also got Soubi into painting, specifically sitting at an easel painting with oils, because it was something his mother had done. It was just luck that Soubi was artistically inclined and took to the hobby.

As Soubi grew older, he began to accept Ritsu's training as his lot in life, and assimilated the mantras he was taught as part of himself. He knew that he was a Blank Fighter, to be paired with a Sacrifice to make them more powerful, and expected that Sacrifice to be Ritsu, as he knew the man's former Fighter was dead.

Personality:
He's not exactly shy, more retiring, as he's used to his opinion not being wanted or actively dismissed. His choices are not his, and are made for him without his consent. He's lonely, starved for affection, but will have a hard time letting people get close. He's been taught that only one person should matter and that's his future Sacrifice, and even they shouldn't see him in pain or needing comfort.

He speaks his mind, more honestly than most social norms dictate is acceptable, something he picked up from Ritsu's blunt manner of speaking to and about people. He hasn't yet picked up the habit of amusement at seeing people uncomfortable, but he does have a tendency to put people into boxes of 'useful', 'not useful', and 'intrusive woman' thanks again to Ritsu and the other teachers at Seven Moons.

He is very stubborn – determined to be perfect, and to never let down Ritsu's expectations of him. It’s rare for someone to beat him in a fight, and when they do, he doesn’t go down easily. Unconsciousness is usually required to get him to stop trying, or someone in authority over him calling a halt to the fight (Ritsu yet again). He believes wholeheartedly in the Fighter/Sacrifice system that Seven Moons espouses, and won't let anything get in the way of obeying orders from his master, even if he disagrees with the orders – he was created to be a weapon and is nothing more than that (or so he tries to believe).

He has a sense of doubt in his place in the world. He still somewhat remembers his parents and that things were different when they were alive, but now is under very strict supervision by Ritsu who commands nearly all aspects of his life, including hobbies, mealtimes, and how he dresses. He is desperately trying to reach Ritsu's impossible ideal, the perfect weapon, and is very much a created weapon.

He has very little sense of self-preservation – he will give his all if he is in a fight, and won't take unnecessary risks, but when put between the choice of getting hurt or losing (or having his master hurt), he will choose to be hurt. Injuries don’t bother him much, though he takes care of them meticulously – likely something trained into him by Ritsu. He regularly wears bandages to cover the wounds on his back, because Ritsu will rarely let them go to scars before instigating another lesson/reminder of how to not react to pain. "It's fine" is a common statement of his. To him, his wounds are inconsequential unless they affect his ability to fight – and even then, he considers them to be a failing on his part.

Fears:
+ Being useless/unwanted – Soubi is being trained by an abusive man who preys upon his fears and constantly impresses upon him the need to be perfect, that he is and will become the best Fighter for the best Sacrifice.
+ Being unable to move/act when he needs to - being tied up/restrained in some way when there's something that NEEDS to be done.
+ Losing, and thus being considered useless. He's never lost a fight before, and even if most of them have been training, he still worries about consequences if he breaks his perfect record.
+ Butterflies in a more generic sense - he's not exactly afraid of them, but if they keep popping up, he'll be on-edge. This is because of his history with Ritsu, who often compared him to a butterfly, able to change itself by throwing off an old cocoon.
+ Darkness and graves – again, thank Ritsu for exacerbating these by pressing his panic buttons over them when he was small.

Weaknesses:
+ Mild myopia.
+ Has severe self-worth issues. He was brought up to be a weapon, treated as a possession and lots of his belief in his worth lies in being valuable to his master.
+ Co-dependant (upon Ritsu currently, but that may change depending upon circumstances. Ties into his self-worth and need for a master again).
+ Doesn't see it as worthwhile to want things for himself, or to do things for himself. Usually doesn't end up being self-destructive, but can lead that way.
+ His ability to bond with someone who has the power and knowledge to do so, and his psychological inability to refuse them if coached right.

Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
+ Good painter – used to oil, likes ink and watercolors better.
+ High pain tolerance.
+ Very quick with turns of phrase and wording – knows a lot of words and how to use them.
+ Has a very solid imagination, and good control over it.
+ If you somehow gain his loyalty, that's it; you now have one Soubi primed and ready for use for whatever you command.

Sensitivity/Magical Ability:
+ Can affect the world around him with words. Most physical effects are temporary, though the mental ones linger. Canon is vague (and, in places, stupidly inconsistent from one page to the next) on how this works, so I've teal-deer'd to try and make sense of it on his journal.
+ Medium-level sensitive. Has the power to notice other bonded pairs/power users when nearby. Can notice the trace of a Fighter even when they've made sure to erase it. Unusually sensitive for a Fighter; usually only Sacrifices are trained to notice other Pairs. [Headcanon:] It works something like echolocation. In Maison, this should translate to being able to 'hear' other magic/power users within about the range of a football pitch's width, but not sense what the power does. Within about two rooms' distance, he should be able to more precisely track people.
+ [Headcanon:] The default state for his personal power presence is a low-level "someone with power here". Soubi can expand it to have a very strong presence – it does this automatically when he uses spells – or can hide his presence, though this takes concentration.
+ He can see links between people who are bonded telepathically/empathically/magically. Think Harry-Voldemort or Mukuro-Chrome.

Supply List:
+ Clothes (shirt, pants, sweater vest)
+ Bandages around torso, with gauze padding.
+ Glasses (round, wire-frames, corrects mild myopia)
+ Plastic folder containing a couple of pencils and some sheets of sketch paper, classwork, and poetry.

Sample RP post:

Scent was the first change he noticed; a mix of stone, dust, woollen cloth and other people. Quite different from the clean impersonal smell of the Seven Moons where he lived. He opened his eyes and bit back a wince of pain as his back shifted against the surface he was lying on. Ritsu-sensei had given him a lesson the previous day, and he still ached from it. He took in the grey stone around him with mild interest, looking to one side and taking in the other beds and trunks at the base of them. A dorm room? Where was he?

He hadn't had any warning from Ritsu-sensei that there would be a test or an outdoor trip (test), and he hadn't felt any Pairs using power near him.... but that could be part of the test. He swung his legs over the edge of the bed doubtfully, repressing any urge to wince, and looked around. Should he look around? Ritsu-sensei hadn't told him to stay put, so he supposed it would be okay. It might be better to keep near the room, though, in case someone came for him?

Or maybe he was supposed to go and look for them? They did that sometimes in Seven Moons, find and battle with Pairs split apart. He frowned and shook his head. This was why it was better for Ritsu-sensei to tell him what he was supposed to be achieving. He didn't like not knowing what the limitations were.

He wished Ritsu-sensei was here to tell him what to do.

Hesitating a little, he stood up, stepping carefully around the other beds toward the door. He hesitated again in the entrance, then squared his shoulders and stepped through. If he was wrong, he'd just take his punishment and learn from the experience.
